Battle Seasonal Allergies!

May 25th 2011

If any of your employees suffer from seasonal allergies, it can be tough for them to do their outdoor hospitality job. No matter how good their uniforms look, stuffy noses and itchy eyes don’t send off a very professional vibe. Keeping allergies under control can be difficult—but it’s not impossible. There are many things you can do to alleviate the symptoms. Share these tips with your outdoor hospitality workers, and everyone should look and feel better!

• Suggest that they visit their doctor. Doctors can prescribe medication that can really help with allergy symptoms.
• There are also many over the counter medications that work for allergies. If you or your employee is unsure what to buy, ask the pharmacist. They can direct you to an OTC allergy medicine that treats all kinds of allergies.
• If at all possible, try and rotate shifts. If many of your hospitality employees have seasonal allergy symptoms, don’t let them be outside for too long. Rotate shifts every hour or so—bring the outdoor workers inside and vice versa.
• Keep your grounds well manicured. The less free pollen there is floating around, the better off everyone will be.

Try to enjoy springtime! Summer is almost here, and allergy season will begin to die down. This has been one of the worst allergy seasons on record—so we can’t blame you for being overwhelmed! Pretty soon you’ll just have to worry about having the right cool vent polo shirts.

Keep it Cool with the Right Uniforms

May 10th 2011

Warm weather is on its way, and it’s time to think about your outdoor hospitality workers. If it’s warm outside, they should have the right uniforms. But there’s more to it than that. We’ve got a few tips you can share with your outdoor hospitality staff to make sure that they stay cool, comfortable, and level-headed during the summer heat. After all, these folks don’t have the option to just turn up the office air conditioner.

Stay Cool Outside
• Take a slow and steady approach to your work. Don’t run around or over-exert yourself. It might seem like a good idea for the short term, but you’ll never get through your whole day at to quick a pace. Drink as much water as you can.
• Make frequent trips indoors. Move in and out of the air conditioning as much as you can. This will help get you through the hot afternoon weather.
• It’s important to dress the part, as well. Here at Sharper Uniforms, we have capri pants, summer uniforms, moisture management polos, cool vent shirts, and shorts that can help you beat the heat.
• We said it once, but we’ll say it again. Drink lots of water! It’s crucial to stay hydrated.
• The more people you get to do the work, the better it’ll be! If possible, rotate shifts often so that you stay hydrated and alert.

Casino Jobs: The Uniform Makes It!

March 31st 2011

The casino industry offers a wide variety of job opportunities. Each job is important, and it’s a great industry to get into. Some jobs require math skills and others require a specific license—but the majority of casino jobs require a customer service orientation with an eye for providing a memorable and entertaining experience for patrons. With the right staff and the right casino uniforms, you can really make an impression.

The heart of the casino is the gaming staff. Game floor employees execute the card games. Dealers deal cards, shuffle the deck, exchange chips for cash, and figure payouts to winning hands. Floor managers (or “pit bosses”) oversee a group of dealers and tables. A state gaming license is required to work the game floor.

Cage cashiers perform credit card transactions, cash checks, transfer chips to the casino floor, and redeem chips. Similarly, the soft count team counts and sorts the contents of the drop boxes where dealers put money when exchanging for chips at the table. Accountants audit food and beverage banks, the cage, and casino tables. These positions also require a state gaming license.

The food and beverage department includes servers, bartenders, cooks, and supplementary personnel (like bar backs, bussers, expediters, and supervisors). Gaming licenses aren’t required for these jobs, but some positions might require liquor control licenses.

No matter where you work in a casino, it’s important to have the right casino uniform. You can find everything you need right here at Sharper Uniforms!

Info About Polo Shirts! (We Love ‘Em)

February 28th 2011

Polo shirts are among the most classic uniform pieces. But do you know anything about where they came from? We’ve got great polo shirts for men and women here at Sharper Uniforms—so we were interested in their history.

Polo shirts date back to the 1800s when polo players began wearing them as sporting attire. (Guess the name makes sense, then!) They are sometimes referred to as a golf shirt or a tennis shirt, too. When not being used as a classic uniform piece, polo shirts can also be seen on people at country clubs and in offices of casual Fridays.

A long sleeved polo shirt was first worn in the 1800s by polo players. But in 1926 a revolution happened! Tennis player Rene Lacoste created a short sleeved version to wear while playing. We’re so glad he did! A classic uniform style was born.

Many different fashion trends are associated with polo shirts, as well. There were the “preppy” people in the 1980s… and lately people have been seen wearing more than one at a time! (We’re not sure how much we like that—or the “popping collars.”) We love polo shirts for their undeniably professional look. (When worn properly, of course.)

A Brief History of Neckties

February 15th 2011

We’ve got a great selection of hospitality neckwear here at Sharper Uniforms. You can’t deny that your staff just looks better in ties, scarves, and other types of neckwear. But have you ever wondered why neckwear is the standard? Well, we did… we did a little bit of poking around to find the answer. As to many other things, you can find the answer in history.

Get the right neckwear for your staff

Neckties actually date back hundreds of years—coming into existence as the direct result of war. In the 17th century, a regiment from Croatia visited Paris as a celebration of their victory over the Ottoman Empire. The soldiers were presented to King Louis XIV as heroes. If you know your history, you know that Louis XIV was a big fan of personal adornment. The officers of this Croatian regiment were wearing brightly colored handkerchiefs around their necks. Louis XIV was impressed by these scarves, and he made scarves a symbol of royalty. In fact, the word “cravat” is directly derived from the word “Croat.”

The tradition of wearing neckties rests pretty deep in our culture. Make sure your staff is outfitted with the appropriate neckwear. Your customers expect it!

Valentine’s Day Catering Tips

February 7th 2011

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, many would-be Casanovas are going to be ordering takeout in an effort to impress their lady friends. This can be a great day for your restaurant or catering business. If you have a delivery service, you need to make sure that your staff looks great when they drop the food off—you don’t want to be the reason a guy gets turned down on Valentine’s Day! That’s why we have the perfect hospitality outerwear for your delivery staff right here at Sharper Uniforms. They’ll look clean and crisp in their jackets and sweaters.

Make someone's Valentine's Day special

But that’s really only half the battle. You also need to make sure that your food gets to the happy couple in one piece. We’ve got you covered as far as the uniforms and clothing are concerned—and we also have a few tips for you when it comes to transporting your hot food.

• Make sure you have well-insulated plastic or metal containers for transporting the food.
• Wrap the food well. This will ensure that it arrives the way it’s supposed to—as opposed to all over the floor of the delivery vehicle!
• You can even double the wrap job by using both plastic wrap and foil.

The best job is a job done right. With a little bit of care and the right hospitality outerwear, your business will make the right impression this Valentine’s Day. And when you make a good impression on your customers, they’ll keep coming back. (The same sort of goes for the would-be Casanova on Valentine’s Day… he wants to make a good impression just as much as you do!)
