Casino Jobs: The Uniform Makes It!

March 31st 2011

The casino industry offers a wide variety of job opportunities. Each job is important, and it’s a great industry to get into. Some jobs require math skills and others require a specific license—but the majority of casino jobs require a customer service orientation with an eye for providing a memorable and entertaining experience for patrons. With the right staff and the right casino uniforms, you can really make an impression.

The heart of the casino is the gaming staff. Game floor employees execute the card games. Dealers deal cards, shuffle the deck, exchange chips for cash, and figure payouts to winning hands. Floor managers (or “pit bosses”) oversee a group of dealers and tables. A state gaming license is required to work the game floor.

Cage cashiers perform credit card transactions, cash checks, transfer chips to the casino floor, and redeem chips. Similarly, the soft count team counts and sorts the contents of the drop boxes where dealers put money when exchanging for chips at the table. Accountants audit food and beverage banks, the cage, and casino tables. These positions also require a state gaming license.

The food and beverage department includes servers, bartenders, cooks, and supplementary personnel (like bar backs, bussers, expediters, and supervisors). Gaming licenses aren’t required for these jobs, but some positions might require liquor control licenses.

No matter where you work in a casino, it’s important to have the right casino uniform. You can find everything you need right here at Sharper Uniforms!

Info About Polo Shirts! (We Love ‘Em)

February 28th 2011

Polo shirts are among the most classic uniform pieces. But do you know anything about where they came from? We’ve got great polo shirts for men and women here at Sharper Uniforms—so we were interested in their history.

Polo shirts date back to the 1800s when polo players began wearing them as sporting attire. (Guess the name makes sense, then!) They are sometimes referred to as a golf shirt or a tennis shirt, too. When not being used as a classic uniform piece, polo shirts can also be seen on people at country clubs and in offices of casual Fridays.

A long sleeved polo shirt was first worn in the 1800s by polo players. But in 1926 a revolution happened! Tennis player Rene Lacoste created a short sleeved version to wear while playing. We’re so glad he did! A classic uniform style was born.

Many different fashion trends are associated with polo shirts, as well. There were the “preppy” people in the 1980s… and lately people have been seen wearing more than one at a time! (We’re not sure how much we like that—or the “popping collars.”) We love polo shirts for their undeniably professional look. (When worn properly, of course.)

School Concert Uniforms: Concert Etiquette

February 21st 2011

It's the musicians' time to shine!

We’ve got a great selection of school concert uniforms here at Sharper Uniforms. But no matter how great your children or students look during their school concerts, there might be some audience members that can make the experience less-than-pleasant. If you want to ensure that your kids’ concerts go off without a hitch, outfit them in the classic school concert uniforms we have here—and make sure the students in the audience have a basic grasp on concert etiquette. Here are some rules that you can share with your children or students:

• Refrain from talking during the show. This is the biggest rule of all—and it also includes whispering during the music.
• The students on stage at a concert have worked hard to prepare for the performance, so they don’t need any help from the audience. Refrain from tapping feet and humming along—unless the performers ask for it.
• Velcro is a no-no at school concerts. If your purse, wallet, shoes, etc. have Velcro closures, please refrain from opening and closing them during the performance.
• Don’t applaud between movements of a musical piece. You might think the piece is over, but it isn’t.
• Try to make sure that student concert-goers have an open mind. Millions of people in the world enjoy classical music—including some classmates! Who knows… if you give it a chance, you might enjoy it, too. Imagine how classy you’d look in a school concert uniform.

Flight Attendants’ Uniforms Through the Years

January 24th 2011

We’ve got the best hospitality uniforms for your staff here at Sharper Uniforms. We love learning about different types of uniforms. The Museum of Flight in Seattle is opening their “Style in the Aisle” exhibit, and we thought we’d take a look at flight attendant uniforms over the years. This exhibit takes us from the first flight attendants in the 1930s, through the brightly-colored 1960s and 1970s, and right up into today. Let’s see how much has changed in this unique uniform market.

What uniforms did your flight attendant wear on your last vacation?

• In the 1930s, uniforms were plain gray suits that actually resembled nurses’ uniforms.
• Uniforms changed with the times in the 1940s and the women’s clothing was a little more fashion forward.
• By 1966, the skirts on flight attendants’ uniforms was a little shorter than it was before—sitting right around the knee.
• Later on in the 1960s, the flight attendants’ uniforms were downright mod. The pieces were a selection of bright, solid colors. In many cases, the colors were inspired by the flight’s destination—green, Pacific blue, and canyon red.
• The 1970s were similar. The collection that stands out to us the most is the American Field Flowers Collection. (If you flew in the 70s, you remember this uniform.)
• We should also mention that hemlines got even shorter on the attendants’ uniforms throughout the 1970s.
• Today, flight attendant uniforms are very much like the hospitality uniforms you’ll find here at Sharper Uniforms—crisp, neat, modest, and attractive.

Caring for Hospitality Outerwear

December 30th 2010

Winter is upon us, and that means that your staff is going to have to take care of their hospitality outerwear. We have a few tips for keeping different outdoor garments clean this season.

Coats
The frequency with which you clean your coat doing the winter depends on your daily environment. If your business is in a busy city area, consider cleaning your coat once a month. Dust and dirt particles can actually get into the weave of a coat and will wear the fabric down. Otherwise, you can clean your coat twice a season. Clean it once at the beginning of winter and once at the end. All of the great hospitality coats here at Sharper Uniforms can withstand many different environments.

Scarves
Many people don’t consider cleaning winter scarves more than once a season, but you really should. After all, your staff is the face of your business. Scarves are continually exposed to perspiration and makeup. Anything close to the body needs to be cleaned more often.

Gloves and Mittens
Leather gloves are more durable than fabric gloves, and they can usually be wiped with a damp cloth when they’re dirty. You should bring your leather gloves to a dry cleaner for a cleaning once a season.

With these tips, your outerwear will stay nice and clean all season long!

Neckwear Pulls it Together

November 19th 2010

With the holiday season virtually upon us, it’s more important than ever to make sure that everyone on your staff looks their absolute best. Take a minute and think about what a man needs to wear in order to look totally put together. Game show hosts wear them, CEOs wear them, and your hospitality staff should be wearing them, too. The neckwear here at Sharper Uniforms isn’t just for men, either. We have ascots and other neckwear for women, too.

Casino Uniform Trends

November 7th 2010

Modern casino uniforms follow modern trends. Here at Sharper Uniforms, we know what you want from your casino uniforms, and we’re committed to bringing that to you. Here are some facts about casino uniforms over the years.

casino uniforms sharperuniforms.com

The casino uniforms of the 1950s and 1960s reflected the Hollywood-inspired Rat Pack trend, when the casinos hosted elegant socialites. In the 1980s and 1990s, however, casinos began targeting families. That’s when the styles, fabrics and colors began to change. The focus was more wholesome fun. The colors were brighter and the fabric was more stable, with the appearance of the poly/cotton blend. Many of our casino shirts are a great poly/cotton blend.

In the new century, casinos began catering to a whole new clientele. Casinos these days are targeting the young, wealthy, and hip 20 to 35 year olds. That’s why many casino trends are going for a Los Angeles retail style, more ‘street clothes’ than traditional uniforms. You’ll find that the casino uniforms we have here at Sharper Uniforms are right on par with all of the current trends.

The best part about our casino uniforms is that they make your entire staff look friendly and put-together. With a tidy staff, your clients will feel comfortable and happy. That’s one of the most important things to a business owner.
